Language - The masthead is short and memorable, as it's 'gx'. The way it's presented is large and dominant so it's immidiately noticed, plus it's at the top right hand corner of the cover, which looks modern because it's not centred and even, like many other magazines. The main image seems to be like a cartoon outline of a teenage boy and a girl socialising as they're facing one another which is clearly seen as it's marked out by the bolder main colours. It would bge better if they had a medium close up image of a person to dominate the page, instead they have quite a thumbnail picture of a girl's face at the bottom in MCU, but it doesn't really catch the audeinces eye straight away, even though she's making eye contact, I don't think the picture is in the right place on the page and isn't big enough. It has a thought out colour scheme with a clear house-style of the three main colours: Grey, white and bright blue with details of a mustard yellow colour, I said it's 'though out' because the greys and whites make the electric blue colour emboldened, therefore making it eye-catching but not overwhelming because a little less than half of it's in blue. I think the thumbnail images that illustrate other articles featured aren't very informative so I see them as irrelevant and I don't like how they've layed them out, although on the other hand the biggest thumbnail fits in with the house style which reduces the audiences confusion. It doesn't have a price and bar code, this effects the cover in a bad way because it makes the cover seem unofficial for retail.The sub headings in blue have the same font as the masthead which is good as it all looks very organised and smart ,but they are quite difficult to read as the blue is masked by the grey background which is a similar brightness to the blue font,the darker grey colour similar to the grey trousers to the left of the text would have more appropriate here it would connect with the image to the left of the text but also still fit in with the chosen colour scheme.
Institution - The institution for this magazine cover is Grimsby College., I know this from how many times the word "Grimsby" is used on the front page, included in a website address which is boldly centred on the page and in a name of a place they relate to (The Grimsby Institution)
Ideology - I think the magazines main connotation is a social one, because the main image on the cover is of two people who seem to be a teenage boy and girl, and they're facing each other, like they're having a conversation.
Audience: The use of both sex's and a teenage appearance makes the main image relate to the target audience (students) especially because students are teenagers who are either male or female. It was clever to use a brick wall as the background but change the colour, it's almost unnoticeable but a small detail which is very significant to the main theme. However, some may feel that the dominant picture of an illustration of a male is sexist to the smaller, in the background female image posing in a certain 'feminine' stance, almost as if an image sets the example of the 'cool' student stereotype is being used for male and female student roles. The students may feel like the college is trying too hard to appeal to the younger crowd.
Representation: The cover creates a positive influence onto the reader, since it's not boring, nor overwhelming with not enough white space. It doesn't come across as strict, which is a good escape for a student to endure because student life can be very stressful sometimes. Overall I see it as a young and edgy cover.
Language: The font on this magazine is nondescript and very dull, although the masthead is very clear and plain, as the creator has used white on black, which are opposite colours, therefore all of the text on the cover is extremely easy to read. It wasn't wise to use the same two colours, which some people don't even call colours...because throughout the magazine it's made the magazine seem as simplistic as the the colour use. Also, the main image doesn't help the dullness of the overall cover, since the main colours of the image are also black and white. The small hint of deep blue in the main image doesn't really have much of an impact since it's so similar to the existing main colours of the image. The features at the bottom left side of the page are in quite a small text, which is hard to read or pay any attention to, especially since they have no thumbnail images included at all, it didn't strike me as a reader that there's existing features all. the image chosen for the cover isn't totally relevant to the magazine, the informative caption doesn't really tell you much about the picture, like who's in it, where exactly they are in Berlin, which students they are ect. We only get given a clue about what the picture is about after reading the tiny caption which almost blends into the picture because of the colour scheme.
Institution: East Riding College has designed this magazine, they've clearly presented their logo in the bottom right corner of the page to make sure their target audience have them in mind, even if the viewer has only glimpsed at the cover, they would've seen a picture with a group of people in it with nice scenery and the logo, which spells out to them that if they were to pick a media course, they could be just like one of those unidentifiable people; with a group of people, with a pretty surrounding, it would lure them in because the picture of the people represents a group of people you would meet if you signed up, it shows off the fun side of college and the opportunities the students could have.
Ideology: It doesn't seem to me that the college have spent very much time at all in creating this cover. It doesn't seem well thought out or anything with effort to make it glamorised to the youth of today. It wouldn't be something to make me want to go to that particular college.
Audience: This magazine is probably targeted at students who are looking to go into higher education,aged 16-19, or maybe also some people over the age of 19, who also want to get into higher education. I wouldn't say the magazine would achieve it's potential to it's targeted audience as it's too dull to appeal to students.
Representation: It's represented as a nice place, because the main image has a very sceneic feel to it. It shows the viewer that there's activities available and places to go where most people haven't gone before.
